Prof. Dr. Levent AKIN
Prof. LeventAkın was born in İzmir. He attended school in Ankara. He was appointed as research assistant in 1991 and as full professor in 2013 in the field of labor and social security law at Ankara University Faculty of Law where he obtained his law degree in 1990 as well.
Other than Ankara University Faculty of Law, Prof. Akın lectured at Faculty of Law at Ufuk University and at Faculty of Law at TOBB ETÜ during their foundation stage as well as at the Department of Industrial Engineering at Middle East Technical University. He still teaches courses in labor and social security law at Bilkent University Faculty of Law along with the courses at Ankara University Faculty of Law.
Prof. Akın is author of several articles in international scientific journals published in USA, Germany, UK and in national scientific journals as well as various books in area of his expertise which are frequently cited(www.law.ankara.edu.tr).
Along with his scientific activities, Prof. Akın served as Legal Counsel, Law and Legislation Coordinator at Ankara University Rectorate; Deputy Dean and Associate Dean at Ankara University Faculty of Law; Vice Director and Director at Vocational School of Justice at Ankara University, Member of Faculty Board at Ankara University Faculty of Law, Member of Executive Board and Co-Director of Ankara University Intellectual and Industrial Rights Research and Application Center (FISAUM), Member of Steering Committee of Ankara Üniversitesi YAŞAM, Dean of Faculty of Law at Girne American University, Representative of YÖK at Consultative Committee of Education Center at Ministry of Labor and Social Security (ÇASGEM).
Prof. Akın took an active part in the drafting of “The Law on Social Security and General Health Insurance”, “The Law on Occupational Health and Safety”, “The Law on Labor Courts” and Regulations on “Mediation” within relevant Ministries and Turkish Grand National Assembly. In this context, he carried out studies in Court of Appeals in Berlin and in Federal Court of Justice in Germany. He took part in Turkish delegation participating in General Meeting of International Labor Organisation (ILO) in Switzerland.
Prof. Akın served as producer of a TV program broadcasted in TRT Haber between the years of 2003-2009 where labor law and social security law matters were handled. He produced more than 300 live TV programs. In this context, the program won the Radio and Television Journalists Association’s Prize.
He has been serving as official mediator for 12 years within Ministry of Labor and Social Security and is registered in Ankara Bar.
Prof. Akın still holds office as chair of Department of Labor and Social Security Law at Ankara University Faculty of Law. 2017
